It is our privilege to introduce the fine work of JS Bird.
He created a collection that represents each archetype. Each piece references various aspects of masculinity from multiple cultures as well as colors based on chakras. These works of art are each 9 x 6ft.
The Magician – Shows transformation and references the crucifixion of Christ and stigmata, this piece highlights the mind energy
The Lover – The lover is holding and healing the wounds. It represents grief and belly energy
The Warrior – Shows fire and energy. Represents primal and root energy
The figures in each piece are referenced from south pacific culture, specifically, traditional dancers from Borneo. Each painting contains a forked stick which represents masculinity in some West African cultures. Sadly, the king has been lost to history as this archetype was not fully understood by the artist at the time and was hard to refine onto canvas
These pieces were created with the focus on mythology, the relationship of humans to the environment and the ManKind Project. The work was a natural progression of the artist and the human. The idea of archetypal symbolism has always inspired JS. These pieces showed them how to translate what he knew about the archetypes into a visual language. These pieces have been displayed in colleges, galleries, on the east coast, here in Oregon and in San Jose. These pieces are about twenty years old now. Currently these pieces remain in his private collection.
